Just the beginning
Going to Summit Motorsports Park is always a great experience for Gutierrez Brothers Racing (GBR). “It’s our home away from home track,” says Phil. “We always have an amazing time at Norwalk. The Bader family, NHRA, and Will Tharpe know how to do showmanship!” Not only was the show awesome for fans and crews but GBR had a pretty great race weekend too.
“We have taken the car into a new direction with our tune up and this past weekend it really did what we wanted” says JP. “Each pass went faster throughout qualifying until the 3rd pass where we went 5.25 at 270mph! That was our second fastest pass ever so that felt really good!” GBR qualified 3rd and had to run Taylor Vetter for round one of eliminations. JP was faster on the light and ended up beating Taylor’s 5.33 with a 5.32! Round two GBR had to face up against Julie Nataas. “We made a change before round two and the car clearly didn’t like it. It smoked the tires at the hit and Julie went A to B. Of course we would have loved to win another round but sometimes you have to make a mistake to learn what the car can’t do” says JP.
Besides getting ready for race season the GBR team has also been rebranding the business this year. “This past weekend went well on the track and off. The support we got for taking our business in another direction was unbelievable!” Jp exclaimed.
