GBR comes back after disastrous first race!

If you said Gutierrez Brothers Racing’s (GBR) first race didn’t go as planned that would be an understatement. “Our team worked their butts off to get ready for this race. We got there Wednesday night after work and set up and got ready to make a test pass on Thursday, but we had some issues with new computer components. By the time we got to the staging lanes it started to rain and our day was done,” says JP. “Knowing there are setbacks in racing is something that comes with the job, so I was still optimist for the weekend.”

Because of rain the schedule for Friday at Indianapolis Raceway Park was delayed and pushed round one of qualifying to 2:00pm. GBR had a great warm up and was ready to get to the lanes. “JP had been working extremely hard this off season and was ready to get into the dragster for months! Being at the first race of the season is always a great feeling but when the car has a mechanical failure on the first pass of the year it really sucks,” said Phil. In round one of qualifying GBR was the first dragster out. Once JP took off the car looked great until there was a mechanical failure which caused some major melting and a small fire. Because there was significant damage GBR was forced to end the weekend and go home early.

Once GBR got home on Saturday the team went straight to work getting the car ready for the next race which just happened to be two weeks later. “I have the best team which really isn’t a team it’s my family. They are amazing. We had the block out for repairs on Tuesday and got it back Friday. Thank you, Jake Sanders!! The dragster is packed and ready to go and we can’t wait to try again at Summit Motorsports Park this weekend!!” Says JP. Summit Motorsports Park has always felt like a hometown race for them and with such a great facility, track and employees JP is really hoping to put in a great show for them and the fans.

The 16th annual Cavalcade of Stars is set to run June 3-5, 2022. The first qualifying round is Friday at 4:30 pm. Saturday will run qualifying round 2 at 4:00 pm and qualifying round 3 at 8:00 pm. Eliminations will start Sunday at 12:00 pm. GBR is always excited to see fans so get your tickets HERE!!
