Tuning, Machining, Design, & Programming Manager

JP Gutierrez began his journey to compete in NHRA’s fastest quarter mile class when he and his family joined NHRA’s Junior Dragster Ranks in 1998. In 2004, JP wanted to gather knowledge about the mechanics of drag racing’s quickest and fastest race cars, Top Fuel Dragster. JP joined veteran driver Jack Ostrander’s Top Fuel team that campaigned two Top Fuel Dragsters. It was on Ostrander’s team that JP began to have a deep understanding of the mechanical side and tuning of Supercharged Dragsters. In 2011, JP and Phil started Gutierrez Brothers Racing, Inc and two years later they were at the track with their Top Alcohol Dragster! Now, JP is a seasoned veteran in the seat of their Supercharged Top Alcohol Dragster with a best elapsed time of 5.25 seconds at over 272 mph in the quarter mile. During the race weekend JP drives, tunes, and works on the whole car. He also drives the semi truck to and from the track and sets up the pits with Kevin. When he isn’t at the track helping customers he is working in the shop on all kinds of projects! He is currently rebranding GBR to be custom machining, custom parts, performance products, and racing services. Check out the service tab on the home page to see all of what GBR can do for you! If he can get away from the shop and track he likes to relax at home or take Sophia on little adventures with Kara.

Engine Bottom End, Fabrication, & Project Manager

Phil has been with GBR since the beginning when Phil and JP started racing Jr. Dragsters. During race weekends Phil works to service the bottom end of the motor and keeps a close eye on the rod and piston assemblies that go in the motor. Before the dragster takes to the track Phil will also check the track conditions, insure JP is lined up in the right spot after the burn out and co-ordinate any last minute adjustments for weather conditions. When Phil is away from the track he is responsible for fabricating any parts or tools that are needed and works closely with the rest of the team on marketing and new partnerships. During the week Phil works as a seating engineer at a major OEM. Away from the track Phil is a sports enthusiast and follows baseball, football and hockey. But now most of his time is spent being with Lauren and their little boy Alex.

Clutch, Electrical, & Plumbing Manager

Kevin is our newest team member but has been with us since 2016. Kevin is responsible for the clutch and transmission maintenance during the race weekend. Kevin’s race car duties do not just start at the track! He is right there at the shop almost every day with Phil and JP. His major responsibility away from the track is helping JP make sure the semi truck is ready to go to the track! JP and Kevin drive down in the truck together and set up the pit area too. During the day Kevin is a team leader for service technical support and helps find information to give dealership technicians to keep cars on the road. When Kevin isn’t working or at the shop he likes to relax by working on his own truck projects!

CFO, Social Media Manager

Kara has been with GBR since 2013 and even though her responsibilities have changed over the years from working on the car to more team management and social media we couldn’t do a lot without her! During race weekends Kara also helps the team by sitting in the car during the warm up, packing the parachutes, backing JP up from his burnout and keeping the team well fed at the track. Away from the race track Kara is GBR’s CFO and manages business operations as well as social media and marketing. Lucky for us she does all that with their daughter Sophia right along side her! 😊 When she has downtime Kara loves to read and bake but most of all she just likes to have family time with JP and Sophia!

It is rare to see the next member of our team in photos of the race action because she is the one behind the camera! Lauren has been with the team since 2013 and during race weekends Lauren's primary focus is to capture the action over the weekend and she is the hospitality manager! During the day Lauren works at a major OEM as a Purchasing Team Manager. When Lauren is away from the track she likes to garden and read but she doesn’t get to do much of that now since Lauren and Phil welcomed their little boy Alex in October 2021. 😊

Parents of JP and Phil Gutierrez, Hospitality

Both, David and Laura have been around professional NHRA Drag Racing since it’s earlier days in the 1980’s. They are responsible for introducing the Gutierrez Brothers to quarter mile racing the instant they were born! In the fall of 1997 they decided it was time to get JP and Phil into the NHRA Junior Drag Racing League, it was this platform that gave their son’s the key building blocks of a racing team. These days the parents enjoy helping the team where ever they are needed and going racing simply would not be possible without their help!
